The NEW TooBaRoo.com site (v3.0) is launched using WordPress as the CMS – Content Management System

About the New TooBaRoo.com Site

Recently, TooBaRoo has had a lot of success getting client sites quickly ranked for a few keywords words using WordPress as the blogging/content management system.    WordPress, initially a blogging-only platform, has evolved into an excellent content management system (CMS).  We use it daily for corporate blogging clients and our clients’ general business sites that need an easy-to-update solution that does not require programming or programmers to post the initial installation, customization and configuration.

WordPress  is easy to use.  There are hundreds of excellent bug-free plug-ins/widgets that make it one of our current favorite blogging and content management systems.   In addition, Wordpress MU (Wordpress Multi-User) makes it easy to manage multiple WordPress installations.   We wanted to experiment with this newer flavor of Wordpress, and we felt the company site might be a good launching pad for that learning process.  Later we will roll other company sites into the same multi-user controlled system.

Prior TooBaRoo.com Sites

TooBaRoo has had a web presence since 1996. Note the logo on the 1996 site says “TooBaRoo Software”. We were a software-only company back then, and this new thing called the “Internet” was merely another way for us to market our software development services.   Below are a couple of snapshots from the Way Back Machine from 1997 and 2001.   Since that time, we’ve updated content on the site many times, but it was always separate from a formal content management system.  The 1996 site was hand coded and later used  something called SiteMill to update the pages.

The 2001 site used a backend FileMaker database to generate static pages involving client projects and pulldown menus.  We added content to that 2001 structure, but it did not fundamentally change the site structure. It is true that “the cobbler’s children have no shoes”. We’ve done literally hundreds of websites since that time in 2001 but no major overhaul of our own flagship site.

New Site Details

It was time to update our own site, so we chose some of our favorite tools in our favorite plug-ins and whipped this thing together in a few weeks. We started with a WordPress theme from Elegant Themes called eVid.  Some built-in video functionality of this theme correlated well with our planned marketing efforts.  We modified the templates colors, many object sizes, style sheets, and other functionality to personalize it.

Taking Advantage of a CMS (Content Managment System)

However, just as we tell our clients, you can save yourself lots of time and money by starting with a theme or template that is approximately what you want rather than building something from scratch. TooBaRoo still creates completely custom websites and custom content management systems; however it is often not an efficient use of our time, or our clients’ time.  That money and time should be spent on content which is the main feature of any website.   Consequently, we will be adding project summaries and articles that will help our existing and new clients locate and learn about our Internet development and Internet marketing services.

Please send us your comments on the new site’s look and functionality.  Thanks.
